When I get a new cover, I always look to see if I can tie it directly to the history of Nevada. Perhaps it is a name on the cover! Perhaps it is a place! Perhaps it is a date! Sometimes it is just a rare cover and deserves to be here on its own.
Anyway, enjoy looking through them! |

Some of My Personal Favorites:
Yucca Mountain, 1988, Nuclear Waste: This may be the only cover ever addressed to Bullfrog County! Ophir, c1864, Washoe Causeway: Washoe Lake is nine square miles, but the Ophir Mining Company built a bridge (causeway) over it to their mill. Carson City, 1863, Virginia Pony: The Virginia Pony sprung to life when the Pony Express suffered its demise. San Francisco and Virginia City would still be connected with quick mail. Truckee Meadows, 1868, Truckee River Coal Ledge: Coal? Truckee River? Are you sure? Ruby Valley, 1863, Fort Ruby: The Indians are on the warpath and our captain is looking for them! Rawhide, 1908, FIRE: A town rebuilds before a devastating downtown fire is out. Monoville, 1860, Identity Crisis: Monoville had an identity crisis. Well actually two: Where was its place in history and in what state was it located? |
Some of My personal favorites:
Esmeralda, 1864, Orion Clemens: Mark Twain's brother was once Governor of Nevada - sort of! Winnemucca, 1924, The Town of Barbara Worth: This is the story of the town of Barbara Worth in the Black Rock Desert. A Nevada historian might not know this town, but a movie buff might! Cradlebaugh, 1895, Ferris Wheel: One of the greatest amusement rides ever invented owe's its creation to Cradlebaugh, Nevada. Virginia City, 1860, Pyramid Lake Indian War: Boy, did the new white settlers miscalculate this one! Salt Lake City, circa 1859, Where's the Government?Imagine a time and place where there was no law! Dayton, 1866, TWO Nevada Firsts?: This cover is far more than a nice story with a little Nevada connection. William Prows just may be the most important footnote in Nevada history - make that two footnotes! Reno, 1950, Where Dreams Meet: This one is personal! |
Ever wonder what covers were written on which day? Check out the calendar below!
